Script - Are YOU represented in TV drama ? Is your gender represented in TV drama? How about your ethnicity? Is your age or even your sexuality represented in TV drama? If yes ,then are you represented correctly?
Narcos:
Narcos is an American crime drama web television series created and produced by Chris Brancato, Carlo Bernard, and Doug Miro.Set and filmed in Colombia, seasons one and two are based on the story of drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, who became a billionaire through the production and distribution of cocaine, while also focusing on Escobar's interactions with drug lords, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents, and various opposition entities. Season three picks up after the fall of Escobar and continues to follow the DEA as they go up against the rise of the infamous Cali Cartel.
Narcos represents variety of different ethnicity and age. I personally do not agree that Pablo Escobar makes young children and teenagers work for him, gives them weapons and tells them to do all sorts of things such as: radio in when the police are leaving the station, when the police are nearby the drug lord's area or when they are searching houses. Escobar thinks by giving money back to the community and helping them out he is going to earn their respect, which he did however it does not give him the right to use children to do his dirty work.
Nowadays mostly Tv shows, films, games and advertisements have something to represent. They all carry a certain message or meaning; Narcos particularly has a message of how bad people such as drug dealers and corrupted police die in a very horrific way and that Colombia is a country flooded with drugs, because of the corrupt police and government it is very hard to solve this problem.

- Total value of the Big 6 - $430 billion
Package production - In contemporary Hollywood, individual independent production companies put together a production - the studios will then ‘buy into’ the film, offering money in exchange for distribution rights and possibly leasing out facilities (the studio in which to film)
Production Companies - Legendary Pictures
- Blum House Productions
- Blum House Productions
Distribution - Distributors will acquire a film for a fee and gain the rights to sell it (normally on all platforms). A % of box office will go back to producers (after they get back all the money they spend)
They will pay for the marketing of the film.This marketing budget can vary massively. The last Transformers film cost $210m to make and $200m to market.

Written Case study - Black Panther
Black Panther is an American superhero movie which was directed by Ryan Coogler; he was confirmed as the director in January 2016, he wanted to make this movie because he is really passionate about Black Panther. Coogler says that is going to be really challenging and he is trying to make this movie as personal as possible, he is obsessed with the character and the story because he grew up reading comic magazines such as Wolverine and the X-men.
The American superhero film is based on the Marvel Comics it is Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. Marvel Studios itself is dedicated to producing films based on Marvel Comics characters, the studio has been involved in three Marvel- character film franchises to have exceeded $1 billion in North America revenue. However, since 2012, Marvel Studios’ films are distributed theatrically by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, having previously been distributed by Paramount Pictures from 2008 to 2011. Marvel Studios has released 18 films since 2008 from Iron Man to Black Panther. All of these films share the continuity with each other, along with the One-Shots produced by the studio.
The budget of the film's production is around $200 000 000; the film is a Marvel produced which means there are lots of edits, special effects and most of the scenes are made from the computer which means it will cost a lot of money. The creativity of the process on how the characters will look like happens in the visual-development department. The film was mostly made of all new actors and actresses which means they won't get paid much. A lot of money is spent on most of the Marvel movies because of the effects they put, animation, settings; most of the work or the atmosphere of the films are created from the computer because most of the things we see such as spaceships and creatures, we cannot see them in real life and they do not exist.
There are many ways this film was advertised such as TV, constantly on all social media platforms, posters on buses, train stations and in cinemas. They said that reaching children was toy-selling ad campaign Hasbro, selling vibranium claws and a mask. “We are going after a younger customer, and just from a demographic standpoint, the younger you go, the more culturally diverse the population gets,” Cooper Ericksen, Lexus’s vice president of marketing, said at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. “The task is to hit our sales plan really comes from bringing a lot of new customers into the brand.” In a nutshell, Marvel is using activism and “charity” to drive up the film ticket sales. Numerous licensed products are being sold such as clothing merchandise, toys, such as Lego toys and action figures, and even jewelry.
A car company such as Lexus has teamed up with Marvel Studios to create, Black Panther-inspired vehicles and a new graphic novel titled, “Black Panther: Soul of a Machine”. The two vehicle created were exclusively designed around Marvel Studios’ Black Panther film- the 2018 LC Inspiration Series production car. The car was a limited edition as well as a 2018 model edition which makes it very valuable and demanding.
The film can become very successful because of their conglomerate and because of Disney; Disney bought Marvel Entertainment in 2009 for $4 billion, Marvel would make movies and Disney would distribute them to the rest of the world. There are also a few collaborations sometimes when in 2015 Disney and Sony Pictures collaborated in the film Spiderman: Homecoming, it was released in July 2017. Former Sony executive Amy Pascal will co-produce the films with Kevin Feige. The film rights to Spider-Man will still remain with Sony. Marvel Studios will also explore opportunities to integrate other characters MCU into future Spider-Man films. Essentially, I think that such partnership is beneficial to all since the film can be distributed easily and advertised better.

“Is using Snapchat/Instagram a good use of my cognitive surplus?”
300 - 400 words
i think using Snapchat or Instagram is a good use of my cognitive surplus because i get to discover most of the news and articles online. Most of the people use Instagram or Snapchat to post stuff such as: places, food, clothes, cars, news and many other things they get on with life. Some people can get motivated or interested in what those people post for example: if someone is on holiday or travels the world for food, eats the most delicious food around the world and posts about them on social media, someone else can get influenced and can learn about the different types of food from around the world or, they can start travelling the world to try food from other countries.

Meet the blockheads: a rare glimpse inside Minecraft's HQ
- According to the writer, why might autistic children such as his son, be attracted to Minecraft?
2. Which features are included in the education version of Minecraft and how useful do you think they might be as an educational tool?
The company released an educational version of the game which allows teachers to set up classroom servers where students build scale models of their own towns; learn about geography, agriculture, architecture, and physics.
3. Why, does Bergensten suggest, have copycat versions of Minecraft been less successful?
Copy cat versions usually have ''better'' graphics and some other modification's, which usually would mean a good thing. However minecraft's charm is in its simplistic graphics that make the gameplay so much more interesting.
4. It is the community that creates all the different mods of the game, in other words the community that add even more diversity to the game itself. Basically you can create a themed world, for instance a Star Wars or Middle-Earth type of place. Other players can download them and essentially access them.
5. Bergensten notes that the sense of ownership is essential due to the fact that, players feel as if the game is theirs. They make up their own rules, their own structures and how to interact with others.
6. They've expanded the minecraft theme into merchandise, such as helmets, toys, shirts etc.

What are the advantages of online newspaper sites?
After you’ve filmed the newspaper add the following examples to your
screencast recording.
•
They are immediate and up to date. When something
happens, users can access the news and get regular updates
•
They offer more immediate interactive opportunities,
for example there is access to audio-visual clips and opportunities to blog
or email opinions (PARTICIPATORY MEDIA) The Daily Mail which has a high
percentage of female readers, has had particular success with its online
version of Femail with its diet of fashion and gossip.
•
Apps for several newspapers are available for mobile
phones and tablets
•
There is an archive facility so that users can
access back issues or features
|
|
||||||
MEDIA LANGUAGE AND REPRESENTATION
|
|
||||||
Pick at least two top articles from the Mail and the Guardian
Then look at their online presence.
ONLINE Look at each chosen website article and the
associated social and participatory media feeds should link to the themes or
issues represented in the front covers chosen.
How does media language and
representation in those feeds position the audience and engage participation?
|
You may have to access the FB and
Instagram feeds on your phone.
·
The newspapers are not that long and detailed;
on Instagram there are pictures and there are few descriptions about what the
picture is about, because Instagram does not allow you to put a long video so
they reduce the news and put a picture to go with it
·
Whereas on snapchat the news are treated like
a presentation there’s a preview and if u slide up it reveals the whole
story, if you right or left threes more news.
|
||||||
Find the social media related to the
articles. (For example, if a Guardian front cover lead article is a ‘Brexit’
related story then learners should study the associated Guardian Online
article and Twitter, Facebook and Instagram feeds for this story).
SOCIAL
AND PARTICIPATORY MEDIA
What are the associated Twitter,
Facebook and Instagram feeds for the online articles from the Mail Online
website and The Guardian websites? How is media language and representation
in those feeds positioning the audience and engaging in participation.
|
|
||||||
MEDIA INDUSTRIES AND MEDIA AUDIENCES
|
|
||||||
How can audiences be reached through
different media technologies and platforms?
|
I think audiences nowadays are mostly
reached by social media; Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and mostly Twitter.
People create accounts and pages where they post news and people add or
follow them on social media, when they see the posts and news they share it
which means other people will see it and they share it too and so other
people do and the news get thousands or even millions of views and it goes
across the world letting other social media users know.
|
||||||
What is the content and appeal of each
of the set products and how is this used to target, reach and address
different audiences?
|
Different products are for different
target audiences, this means not every product is advertised in TVs, because
nowadays teenagers are not used to watching TV programmes or other channels
but they mostly use social media. This means that these types of target
audience can be reached by social media; Shopable tags, this is when a
celebrity or a model wears clothes and tags the brand name or where they got
it from and the users can click that, and it will directly take them to the
website. Another way is pop up ads, when we stream music or watch football
matches, adverts about clothes, phones, headphones and many others adverts
pop up.
|
||||||
What do you think the effects are of newspapers
becoming more digital and less print? In your opinion how do they differ when
it comes to telling us the news?
|
In my opinion think there is more
people who read the news online than people who buys and reads print
newspapers. This is because online news is much easier to write, put
pictures, they don’t have to waste ink and paper to print them out but most
importantly they can be updated anytime and anywhere. In my opinion, I have
not read a full printed newspaper but just have skipped pages and looked at images
and I am not really sure if they differ when it comes to telling us the news.
